I love decorating with picture frames!
I have a large collection of mostly 8×10 and 5×7 size picture frames. I use them around our house not only to display photos, but also seasonal decor, printable Bible verses, inspirational quotes, or subway art for the changing seasons and holidays. My collection includes some plain black and white frames, simple metallic frames, as well as more ornate ones with interesting shapes, colors and finishes that coordinate with my decor.
Fancy and unique picture frames can be expensive, but you don’t have to spend a lot of money on them. Here are a few of my favorite places to buy frames at discounted prices.
Where To Get Inexpensive Picture Frames
Thrift Stores and Garage Sales
It’s no secret that shopping at thrift stores and garage sales can produce a few treasures, and that includes picture frames! When scouring through thrift stores and garage sales don’t overlook a picture frame with a color or finish that doesn’t match your decor. Picture frames are quick and easy to spray paint! Just pop the glass out, place on newspaper outside, and spray with 2-3 light coats of spray paint. Allow the paint to dry between coats. If the frame is glossy or plastic, you may need to lightly sand it first or coat with a primer like Kilz.
Off-Price Retail Stores like TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshall’s, and HomeGoods
These stores regularly have a nice selection of inexpensive picture frames. They can sometimes get a little banged up, so be sure to check the frame carefully for damage. If you find a frame with some damage, the manager may give you an additional discount (it doesn’t hurt to ask), or it might be something that can be fixed with a hot glue gun. Inventory at off-price retail stores changes often, so check back regularly.
You’ll find a large selection of reasonably priced picture frames at discount stores. Look in different sections of the store like home decor, framed art, and even the mirror section. While you’re shopping be sure to check the clearance section, too.
Like off-price retail stores, the inventory at dollar stores can vary a lot. Check the home decor section of your dollar stores every few weeks to see what’s in stock. I’ve found some nice picture frames at dollar stores!
I’m a big fan of online shopping, especially Amazon. If you’re a Prime Member you can get free shipping on all kinds of things including some pretty amazing picture frames. Look for frames sold in sets for some of the best deals.
Craft Stores like Hobby Lobby, JoAnn’s and Michael’s
Craft stores offer a huge selection of frames. They also release coupons weekly and run sales often. Keep an eye on the sales ads for art sales or framing sales. Combining a sale with a coupon can get you a deep discount on some beautiful picture frames.
Having a collection of picture frames will allow you to
quickly change your home decor season to season keeping it fresh and new.
Knowing where to get inexpensive picture frames will allow you to
collect even more of them!
