Have you ever gone through an extended period of time when nothing seemed to go as planned? You just kept taking blow after blow and couldn’t seem to gain any ground. Plans you made seemed to always fall through or turn out nothing like you expected.
Perhaps you are going through a time like this right now.
trials of life or people letting you down
with God’s sovereignty.
Bad things will happen.
Such is life. God doesn’t promise us a perfect life or to shelter us from troubles. However, he does promise us that He can overcome our troubles.
John 16:33 says “…In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
People will let you down.
I’ll bet you’ve even let some people down. It happens. We’re not perfect, and we can’t expect others to be perfect. But again, you are not alone. Jesus was let down by people over and over again. Peter denied him, Judas betrayed him, and his closest friends on earth couldn’t even stay awake to pray for him right before his crucifixion. When people let you down, call on God to pick you up.
Psalm 120:1 says, “I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.”
God is sovereign. You can trust Him.
Despite bad things happening and people who let you down, God is still in control. No matter what happens, God can still work everything out according to His plan. Nothing is too big or bad for Him to handle.
Ephesians 1:11 says “…he makes everything work out according to his plan.”
What Can You Do Now?
Think back to other times when God has worked things out in your life. You’ve survived bad times before. Did they turn out differently than you expected? Are you a better person because of that experience? Sometimes it’s difficult to see God moving when we are going through hard times, but once things are better we can often look back and see He was at work for us the whole time. Recalling past times when God helped us through difficult times can assure us He is at work even now.
