You don’t need to spend a lot of money on a charcuterie board. As a matter of fact, don’t even use the word “charcuterie” in your search to purchase one. I prefer a flat, wood cutting board. They are less expensive and they don’t have all the grooves and cut-outs for placing your food items. Here are a few I would recommend.
Homemade Festive Charcuterie Components
One of my favorite things about the holiday season is getting creative with snacks, especially when it comes to assembling a festive Christmas charcuterie board. Whether you’re planning a holiday gathering or just want to add a festive touch to your family treats, these fun ideas for Christmas charcuterie components are sure to be a hit. The kids will love helping put these together for a fun and festive activity!
Pretzel Bites
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the pretzel squares in a single layer on the baking sheet. Place a Hershey Kiss on top of each pretzel.
- Bake for 3 minutes. Remove from the oven and immediately place a red or green M&M on top of each pretzel and slightly press down. Allow to cool completely, then store in an airtight container until ready to eat.
Reindeer Pretzels
- Melt chocolate wafers according to package directions.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Hold 2 pretzel sticks together and dip them at the same time into the chocolate about 1/3 of the way. Place on parchment paper to cool. Repeat making a total of 15 sets of dipped pretzels. Allow to cool and harden completely before the next step.
- After the pretzels have completely cooled and hardened, reheat the chocolate to melt it and dip each set again. This time only dip them about halfway. This will make the bottom section a little larger for the face of the reindeer. After the chocolate has slightly set but is still soft, add candy eyes and a mini red M&M for the nose.
- Wait for them to cool completely. Store in an airtight container until ready to eat.
Christmas Puppy Chow
- In a large bowl combine cereal, marshmallows, and pretzels.
- Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Melt chocolate wafers according to package directions. Drizzle the chocolate on top of the cereal mixture. Gently stir to allowing the melted chocolate to coat all the pieces.
- Spread the coated mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Top with red and green sanding sugar or Christmas-colored sprinkles.
- Dust the mixture with powdered sugar and stir on the baking sheet to coat.
- Lastly, add some red and green M&Ms. Transfer to an airtight container until ready to eat
Incorporating some special handmade treats along with savory meats, seasonal fruits, and your favorite cheeses will elevate your Christmas Charcuterie board giving it the perfect holiday touch. I love combining sweet and savory elements so there’s something for everyone. Remember, there are no rules here, just be creative and enjoy creating your gorgeous charcuterie board.
Assembling a Pretzel & Puppy Chow Christmas Charcuterie Board
Here’s how I arranged these elements along with some fresh fruit and cheese to create an easy Christmas Charcuterie Board.
- I chose a square wooden board with a handle for this arrangement.
- Put the Puppy Chow in a small bowl and place it in the center of your charcuterie board.
- Place a handful of Pretzel Bites on opposite corners of your board.
- Put the Reindeer Pretzels on the other corners of your board.
- Add some cheese slices next to the Pretzel Bites.
- Place grapes around the bowl toward the top and bottom of the board.
- Add raspberries and strawberries close to the bowl on the right and left sides. Sprinkle a few extra around wherever you’d like a pop of the red color.
- Fill in the remaining empty spaces with mini marshmallows and mini M&Ms in red and green.
