When you’re craving a cold chocolate coffee drink, and it’s too hot to go outside what are you to do? Well, making your own Mocha Frappuccino like Starbucks is way easier than you think!

Making your own specialty coffee drinks at home has so many advantages. First, it’s a fraction of the cost. You can purchase all the ingredients and make multiple beverages for the cost of only one coffeehouse drink. You can also control the ingredients when you make your own. Need to reduce your carb intake? No problem! Substitute your favorite low or no calorie sweetener for the same great taste with very little carbs. If you have a dairy allergy or sensitivity, you can use your favorite milk alternative.

Here are some things you’ll need to have before getting started:

Kitchen Equipment Needed

My favorite way to make at-home espresso is with my VertuoPlus Nespresso machine. If you’re a coffee lover like I am you should consider getting one of these machines. It will spoil you!

Xanthan Gum is a thickening agent used in foams and sauces. It will keep ingredients together when making smoothies and is a great choice for thickening your frappuccino beverage. 

Mocha Frappuccino Ingredients

  • Espresso coffee
  • Sugar or other sweetener
  • Milk
  • Dark Chocolate Syrup
  • Xantham Gum
  • Ice
  • Whipped Topping

How to make a Mocha Frappuccino like Starbucks

Prepare expresso using a coffee machine such as a Nespresso or Keurig.
Pour expresso into the blender while it’s still hot and add sugar. Blend well until sugar is dissolved.
Next add milk, chocolate syrup and xantham gum. Blend another minute.
Place in the refrigerator and allow to cool at least 30 minutes.
Add ice to the blender and blend on high speed until smooth.
Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream. Drizzle on a little extra chocolate syrup or powdered cocoa if desired.

Create a healthier version custom to your nutrition needs with these substitutions:

  • Select a sugar-free chocolate syrup for a low-carb version.
  • Instead of whole milk, cut the fat content by choosing 2%, 1%, or skim milk.
  • Create a no-dairy frappuccino by using oat milk, almond milk, or soy milk.
  • Use your favorite sweetener instead of sugar such as honey, agave syrup, monk fruit, or stevia.

  • ¾ cup Espresso Coffee prepared and hot
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 3 tbsp Dark Chocolate Syrup
  • 1 pinch Xantham Gum
  • 4 cups Ice
  • Whipped Topping
