Frankenstein Halloween Cupcakes

These Easy Frankenstein Halloween Cupcakes are the perfect combination of monstrous and cute. They are especially great for younger kids because they are more cute than scary. Serve them at any Halloween party, and they are sure to stand out and get noticed.

For this recipe I used a prepared boxed cake mix, but you can make chocolate cupcakes from scratch if you’d like. I’m all about keeping it simple and saving time, so the box mix is good by me! Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a skilled cake decorator to make these easy Halloween cupcakes. I did use a piping bag to apply the green frosting, but I shaped it with a cake decorating spatula. See…super easy. And the details are just sprinkles, candy eyes and Tootsie rolls. I love how they turned out!

Ingredients for Frankenstein Cupcakes

  • Dark Chocolate or Devils Food Cake Mix
  • Eggs
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Butter
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Milk
  • Green Food Coloring
  • Chocolate Sprinkles
  • Tootsie Roll Midgees

How to Make Easy Halloween Cupcakes

Make cupcakes following the box directions. Allow to cool completely before decorating.
Place softened butter in a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Add powdered sugar one cup at a time, mixing after each cup is added until fully incorporated. If your frosting gets too thick, you can add a little milk.

Add 2-3 drops of green food coloring and mix well. Continue adding 2 drops at a time until desired shade of green is achieved.
Transfer the green frosting to a piping bag with a wide tip attached.
Pipe frosting onto the top of the cupcakes. Make it over an inch tall because you’re going to pack it down a little.
Use a frosting spatula to flatten the top and sides of the frosting.
Pour chocolate sprinkles into a shallow bowl or dish and gently press the top of the frosted cupcakes into the sprinkles for the hair.
Add 2 candy eyes on the front.
Cut a Tootsie Roll Midgee in half and stick one half into each side of the frosting to make the neck bolts.

For presentation at a party, add some cheesecloth on a tray (to look like a spider web) and some plastic spiders. Use the spiders as party favors and let the kids take them at the end of the party. You can get cute plastic spider rings, too. Kids love those things!

Supplies for Decorating Frankenstein Cupcakes

Candy eyes can be difficult to find in stores around Halloween, so if your store doesn’t have them you might want to try Amazon.

Tootsie Roll Midgees

Use these for the neck bolts. You can probably find these in your grocery store, but if not they are available on Amazon.
