Without a doubt, microwave popcorn is one of the most convenient snack foods. And while popcorn has a reputation for being a healthy snack, you might want to check that label again. What kind of oil is used? Are there added preservatives? Does it contain allergens?
Why bother making your own popcorn? Well, here are some reasons to consider. It takes up less space in the pantry. You are in control of the portion size and added flavor. It’s also a great alternative for people with allergies. You pop it, you know what’s in there. And it can be just as quick and easy as the prepackaged brands.
Brown Bag Microwave Popcorn
1/3 cup Popcorn Kernels
3 tbsp Butter

NOTE: For those with an allergy to milk, you can substitute a non-dairy butter like Smart Balance or Earth Balance.
There are no complicated directions here.
Place ingredients in bag.
Fold the top of the paper bag over a couple of times.
Place the bag on its side in microwave.
Cooking times vary by microwave, but mine cooks in 2 minutes.
