Lavender Spring Home Decor

Our keeping room (or sitting room…we aren’t quite sure what to call it) is by far my favorite room in our home to decorate. The room isn’t very large, but it has great features such as high ceilings, tall windows, french doors, and the brick fireplace trimmed in gorgeous molding. I often say this room is beautiful even when it’s naked.

This spring I decided to go with a lavender and green color palette. The only things I had to purchase for this room were the 2 purple pom-pom pillow covers. All the other items in the room are decor pieces I already owned. They are just freshly rearranged to give the room a whole new look. You can see some of the teal items I previously used in this Orange and Teal Fall Decor.

When decorating with a bright color like purple, you have to be careful not to overdo it. Carefully spread bursts of color around the room and step back regularly to survey the whole room. Color should be distributed to draw the eye all around the room.

Here’s a wider angle of the room. The french doors are on the right, and my desk to the left. Most days I work from home, so I get to enjoy this room a lot.

Lavender Spring Home Decor Inspiration

I often select an inspiration piece when choosing a color palette for a room. Your inspiration piece could be a pillow, painting or print, floral arrangement, or just about anything. This lavender spring home decor was inspired by the wreath hanging above the fireplace. I purchased this wreath from Kirkland’s a couple of years ago, but you can find similar ones on Amazon.

With the wreath in place, I went to my decorating closet to see what other items I had with similar colors. The teal vases were a Goodwill find, and I have used them many times in different seasons throughout the year. I filled them with artificial lavender stems. Glass teal candlesticks sit on each end outside of the vases, and a teal tray turned on its side offers a nice background for the textured bunnies. At this point I wanted to add something small and light, so the coral and driftwood orb were added. I joined 2 strands of wooden beads together with some twine to make it long enough to span the width of the mantle.

Down below on the hearth more artificial purple flowers were added to a teal glass vase. The vase is adorned with a cutout seashell and some raffia. On the right side I added some books in the same color scheme to elevate the framed “hello spring” print. A candle and an interesting limestone rock finish out the hearth. We found this rock in our yard shortly after moving here 5 years ago, and it’s been on this hearth ever since.

On a side note, I keep real wood logs in this fireplace. If you look really closely you may be able to see a thin wire of fairy lights wrapped around the logs. They are battery operated and give a nice ambience to the room in the evenings.

Chairs and Coffee Table

When zooming out a bit more you can see the slipcovered wing chairs with teal throws and the purple pom-pom pillows. Rather than buying more and more pillows that are difficult to store when not in use, I often purchase pillow covers instead. I have covers for these 12″x20″ pillow inserts in several colors.

To give your room a pulled-together feel, you should repeat colors, textures, or objects in the decor. That’s basically what I did with this coffee table vignette. Everything on the tray is a duplicate of an item and colors repeated in the room. The purple flowers are similar to the ones on the fireplace hearth, teal books and a candle are also on the fireplace hearth, and bunnies are on the mantle. Even the wood tray coordinates with the wood logs in the fireplace.

Lavender Spring Decor on the Walls

Before you call the room done, don’t forget about decorating your walls! A few strategically placed prints is all it took to finish off the space beautifully.

I found 2 framed prints of potted purple flowers in my closet and hung these to the right of the french doors. Also, above my desk are 4 8″x10″ matte black frames. I update the prints in these frames to match the decor of the room. They are attached to the wall using Command Picture Hanging Strips, which makes it easy to take them down and assures they hang straight all the time.

The lavender botanical prints in the frames above my desk are available in my shop for purchase.

So there you have it! I hope my lavender spring home decor has inspired you to get creative in your home!
