It only takes about 30 minutes to make these Mummy and Spider Web Rice Krispies Treats. Make these with your kids for a fun do-together project.

Maybe you love baking with your kids but dread the massive cleanup effort required when it’s all done. If you’re looking for a baking project without the baking, this is for you! These Mummy and Spider Web Rice Krispies Treats start with pre-made Rice Krispies Treats, so you can get straight to the fun part…decorating!

Some things you’ll need

There are a few specialty items you’ll need that you may not normally keep in your kitchen. You can find these items in baking stores or keep it easy and order them online.

Candy Eyes are a must and what bring these treats to life.
Avoid the mess of dying your own icing and get the Black Decorator Icing by Wilton (it’s the best tasting one).
Get the couplers and a #3 Wilton decorating tips, and you’ll be able to pipe the icing straight out of the tube.

Ingredients

  • 24 (or more) Rice Krispies Treat bars
  • Two 10 oz bags Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers
  • 1 or 2 packs of small candy eyes
  • 8 oz Wilton Black Decorating Icing bag with removable tips
  • Coupler and #3 Wilton decorating tip to design the webs

How To Make Mummy and Spider Web Rice Krispies Treats

Line 2 sheet pans with parchment paper.
Place unwrapped Rice Krispies Treats about 2 inches apart on sheet pans.
Melt one package of the white chocolate according to package directions. (Save the other package for later.)

Spread melted white chocolate on top of Rice Krispies Treats using about a tablespoon at a time.
Add eyes before the chocolate sets. White chocolate sets pretty quickly, so I did about 4 at a time.

Repeat the process on another sheet pan, but these won’t get any eyes. This will be the base for the spider webs.

Let’s make the mummy bandages!

Melt the second package of white chocolate according to package directions.
Pour melted chocolate into a piping bag, twist the top, and make sure it’s tight enough so no chocolate will come out the top.
Snip the tip of the piping bag with scissors. Only cut a tiny bit at a time until you get the thickness you’d like.
Apply steady pressure while holding the piping bag firmly.
Drizzle the chocolate across and diagonally in multiple directions. Be careful not to cover the eyes.
Set aside to allow the chocolate to set. It should be firm in about 15 minutes.

Making the Spider Webs

Massage the bag of icing about a minute to be sure it’s mixed well.
Remove the top and tip from the bagged icing.
Replace with #3 decorating tip and coupler.
Practice making a few spider webs on a paper towel or parchment paper.
Draw the straight lines first, then move across them in a wave pattern as shown.
Decorate the spider webs on the tray.
Set aside to allow the icing to set. It should be firm in about 15 minutes.

When the chocolate and frosting are set remove from sheet pans and place on a tray.
Enjoy your Mummy and Spider Web Rice Krispies Treats!

Tips & Tricks

  • If you don’t have a piping bag you can drizzle the white chocolate for the bandages using a spoon. Only use a small amount of chocolate on the spoon at a time.
  • Use clean dry hands to place the candy eyes. They tend to smear. You could also use tweezers. If your eyes do smear, use a damp Q-tip to clean them up.
  • Work quickly with the white chocolate. If it hardens you can microwave it for 15 seconds.
  • You could use chocolate for the spider webs, but it tends to be harder to pipe the web design. Melted chocolate will also be brown, not black.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature. No need to refrigerate. Best if eaten within 1-2 days.
