Recipe Variations & Serving Suggestions
Swap the Gravy Mix: No mushroom gravy on hand? Use 1 packet of brown gravy mix instead—it still gives a rich, savory flavor that pairs perfectly with the meatballs.
Boost the Seasoning: Add a dash of black pepper, garlic powder, or onion powder to deepen the flavor of the sauce.
Add Veggies: Stir in sliced brown mushrooms, white button mushrooms, chopped bell peppers, or yellow onion for extra texture and flavor. These cook down beautifully in the crock pot.
Try a Tomato Twist: Mix in a spoonful of tomato paste for a slightly tangy, richer gravy with a hint of sweetness.
Add a Dash of Umami: A splash of soy sauce can enhance the savory notes in the gravy, especially if you’re skipping the Worcestershire sauce.
Serve It Your Way: These tender meatballs and rich gravy are delicious over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, white rice, brown rice, or even cauliflower mash for a low-carb option.
Add a Side: Round out the meal with a simple veggie like steamed green beans or a crisp green salad for a full plate that’s perfect for any night of the week.
