Serves: Quart Jar of Candy
  • 3½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup Karo Syrup
  • 1 cup Water
  • Oil Candy Flavorings
  • Food Coloring
  • Powdered Sugar
Equipment Needed:
  • A Candy Thermometer
  • Shallow Metal Baking Pan
  • Aluminum Foil
  1. Prepare shallow metal baking pan by covering with aluminum foil sprinkled with powdered sugar.
  2. Combine sugar, Karo syrup and water in a 1-2 quart pot and stir.
  3. Heat on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until it reaches a hard candy boil, 290 degrees.
  4. Remove from heat and carefully add 2 teaspoons of oil candy flavoring and about 10 drops of food coloring of your choice. Use a long handled spoon for stirring because it may spatter a bit when adding the flavoring and food coloring. Stir well.
  5. Here are some color/flavor combination suggestions: red/cinnamon, green/peppermint, orange/orange, yellow/lemon and blue/coconut.
  6. Pour into prepared pan and spread out evenly. Allow to cool completely. Candy will harden as it cools.
  7. When completely cooled, wrap the end of a hammer with plastic wrap and use it to break the candy into bite sized pieces.
  8. Store in an air tight container. Candy will keep for several weeks.
